Back in 2007 I was introduced to a local clothing designer by the name of Anne Hopkins, whose boho-chic designs made her into something of a local celebrity. She put on a fashion show that summer, in which I was featured as a model and promotional photographer, and even had an ET Canada appearance because of. Naked in Muskoka was one of the biggest and hippest things that had happened in our sleepy little town for some time, and everyone took notice.

Fast forward to 2011. With a few retail operations, three fashion shows, being hand-picked by a Canadian musician as the designer of her tour wardrobe, and a TV mini-series under her belt, Anne hasn’t stopped since. I am fortunate enough to be promoting Anne’s designs once again, with my camera.

Reflective Brace

I photographed some product for my family’s business this afternoon, using one of my new DIY light modifiers…a softbox made from a box-box.  Pretty happy with the results.  The equipment?  Not ours.  And that model?  My wonderful younger brother, who just celebrated his 23rd birthday yesterday.

NYE at Lavish

Just as we did last year, we spent our New Years’ Eve photographing all of the happenings at Lavish Nightclub and Ultra-Lounge in London, Ontario.  Once again, it didn’t disappoint! We caught the debut of London’s newest sensation, Kitty Kat, exclusive to Lavish. Best wishes in 2011, everyone!

Aurora

We’re currently parrot-sitting.  Meet Aurora – the gold-capped conure.  I’ve never owned a parrot before, so this is not only fun, but a great learning experience!  I will definitely have to get a parrot of my own some day – they are so full of personality!

Time to take the Blu-ray plunge?

This week has been quite interesting so far.

My 1 TB LaCie drive failed on me after less than a year of faithful service.  The file structure had corrupted.  Four years of photos, school work, essays…

Using R-STUDIO, I was able to recover the unstructured files…I’m thanking Science (lol) for metadata.

Recovered 250 gB to my WD My Passport drive, which I’m finally giving up on after the third time it has failed on me.  Le sigh.

Now I suppose that Bridge and I are going to have to make nice in order to perform some batch operations, seeing as all of my filenames have been changed into a number sequence…ugh.

Obtained a sweet deal on a 2 TB Iomega Prestige drive, that looks pretty cool as well.

Yes yes, I know…I should have had multiple backups…trust me, this is a scare that I won’t be repeating.   So I got to thinking, now with the 25 gB capacity on BD-ROM discs, why not?  We keep being reminded that we should have triplicates of everything – one drive onsite, one drive offsite, and DVDs offsite, just in case.  So is Blu-ray ready to replace DVD completely when it comes to archiving?  What does everyone think?  Have you already made the switch?  How are you archiving your work?

So I ducked into the studio for an hour yesterday to play with some lights.  Here are some of the results!

(P.S. I’d like to add: In addition to not loving over-processed images, I’m also admittedly lazy.  That being the case, all of these images have been colour-corrected only.  There has been zero retouching!)
